The Daimler is Britain's oldest car company, founded in 1896 by Frederick Simms and using German Daimler engines. From the outset, they became known for their quaility and prestige, finding great favour with the British Royal Family. Daimler was bought by Jaguar in June 1960, and the 7/5 seater DS420 Limousine, designed in the mid-60s, is the last true Daimler, albeit powered by a Jaguar engine and based on a stretched Jaguar floorpan. This armoured version was used by H.E. Sir Mark Russell, British Ambassador to Turkey from 1983 to 1986.
